The Paperless Classroom

After groups of students completed a web search on Roman Engineering, they collaborated on Google Dos, and shared their findings using computers.
Next, they argue which Roman engineering feat deserves to be awarded the "greatest legacy" and post their opinion on their personal websites at Weebly.com
Weebly Website Builder offers teachers an option to create password protected websites for an entire class, an excellent platform for student portfolios.

The Internet now is a playground for thinking and learning and a portal to reinvention of one's capacities. I agonize over the cavernous gap between resources and teacher access to them.  As a nation, we must develop the will to create that pipeline to promote the flow of new ideas, and carve out time to train our workforce to better engage our students and prepare them for jobs and responsibilities that don't even exist.

When you click on the icon above, the opening page says it all: Empowering Teachers to Provide The Education Every Child Deserves.  This website provides hundreds of free K-12 training videos in both math and language arts,  strategically aligned to the Common Core.  These also serve as a training platform for teachers too.  If teachers are uncertain how to present a topic, they can learn from award winning teachers who make up "The Dream Team". This is the cornerstone in Bill Gates vision of mobilizing all teachers toward greater mastery of the rigor demanded in the Common Core.

Below are formative assessment tools,  that not only enhance student engagement, but allow teachers to collect authentic, real time data on student mastery.
My favorites: Quizlet, Quizziz, Nearpod, Kahoots!,Socrative, Plickers,Google Forms.

QUIZLET vocabulary games work across devices, and include hundreds of pre-made lists.

KAHOOTS! Free game based learning platform on all topics.

These  multi-platform. aps  allow teachers to create, engage and either conduct formative or summative assessments. They all provide real-time data; all motivate students through various levels of interactive activities. Some are game based, (Kahoots!, others content based with game options (Socrative, Quizlet, Nearpod, Quizizz)

Daniel Nemerow provides a short introduction into each application.

Students share their understanding by answering formative assessment questions in a variety of formats: quizzes, quick question polls, exit tickets and space races. Once students launch the Socrative Student App, they'll be prompted to join the teacher's room via the teacher's unique code. No student accounts necessary
