See Saw: (Formative Assessment): Student driven digital portfolios and simple parent communication. https://web.seesaw.me/Seesaw is a digital portfolio app and website that can be a powerful tool for making student thinking visible. Seesaw also has a blog option that students can use to publish their creations to an authentic audience. It provides students with multiple ways to document their learning. Students can easily create videos, photos, and voice recordings. They may even add a QR code to their creation, print it, and post it in your class so their peers can scan the code and listen to their recording and provide comments — something like a gallery walk. This is a collaborative interactive whiteboard “which helps students capture, explain, and reflect on their learning, using a more powerful platform that allows for animation, compare and contrast, movie making, and sketchnoting. Basically anything your students need to do can be done in a collaborative shared whiteboard, the best one being Explain Everything (Clark, Holly; Avrith, Tanya)

Edupuzzle: (Formative) Edupuzzle  https://edpuzzle.com/  “The easiest way to engage your students with videos.  Pick a video, add your magical touch and track student understanding”. You can upload a you tube video and create an interactive responses.  Students have to answer your questions before they can continue with the video.  I’ve seen this at several conferences, but could not use in our district.  So check your acceptable use policy in your district.

Kami: (Formative)  Kami is an online PDF viewer. Outstanding! Teachers can share Pdf worksheets for student interactive response.  “Kami is your digital pen and paper where you and your students can learn, create, and collaborate.” Lots of tools: highlighting, etc. https://www.kamihq.com/

Nearpod: (Formative) Thousands of visually engaging free interactive lessons with formative feedback. Teachers can upload their own powerpoints and create an assessment on the content. Now include Virtual Reality lessons.  https://nearpod.com/   (Monica Burns)

Padlet: (Formative)  A “sticky” note type interface, allowing students to brainstorm or comment on a central question. A perfect KWL tools, Free  Padlet is both a website and a Chrome extension that allows you to create a blank digital wall. When you don’t have time for your students to make in-depth reflections, they can still use Padlet to create short text- or image-based ones. Lino-it: (Formative) Similar to Padlet but responses can color coded and thus more visually appealing.  The downside: it has advertisements. http://www.linoit.com

Thing-link: https://www.thinglink.com/edu This video explains the value of the free version of thing link. This is a remarkable tool that allows students to create hyper linked images onto of images. Perfect for authentic assessment of understanding across all content areas. Symbaloo: https://www.symbaloo.com/home/mix/13eP29aBMO Symbaloo is a personal hypwelinked page that allows you to easily navigate the web and compile your favorite sites all into one visual interface.  Do a “Symbaloo” search (ie. Symbaloo Fractions) and your will discover many  free hyperlinked page created by another teacher.

Weebly: www.weebly.com Teacher/Student Website creation.  For a small fee, the education version is robust. It allows teachers to create password-protected classes which allows  students their own url and many professional features: drag and drop, video insertion, etc. Google Sites now has some of the same features, however, some districts don’t allow students to publish their Google sites.  Students can create a professional webpage in a short period of time

Canva: (Creativity)Free Graphic Design: https://www.canva.com  (Clark, Holly; Avrith, Tanya)  Incredibly free sophisticated graphic design web app.  Thousands of templates Fremium, but “free” offers more than students would need)  I created many of the graphics on this website in Canva. Canva is a free online graphic design platform that allows you and your students to quickly create professional, customized graphics. In the company’s own words, it’s “an amazingly simple graphic design tool.  Perfect for Generation Z students, who will figure this out faster than you. Androidify: (Creativity) https://androidify.com/en/#/ Create your own cartoon Android using this Google-powered website. Your options are limited to cartoon robots.

DoppelMe: (Creativity) Students can design a human cartoon image, complete with accessories. Although they have fewer choices here than other sites, everything is appropriate for all ages. “With DoppelMe you can create a cool graphical likeness of yourself, your friends, family or any group of people for use as an avatar in forums, instant messenger, blogs and almost anywhere else on the web”   http://www.doppelme.com/

Pixlr Express: (Creativity) https://pixlr.com/express/ This is an web app and a Chrome extension.  You will have to turn off AdBlocker to run this site. A graphic editor for your more advanced students who will enjoy using this web app to customize their headshot.

Sketchup: (Creativity) Sketchup (sketchup.com) offers free, powerful 3D modeling tools that are easy to use.

UtellStory: (Creativity) UtellStory (www.utellstory.com) is similar to VoiceThread but has a simpler interface.

Wordle: Wordle (www.wordle.net) will generate a word cloud from any text a user provides.

Book Creator: (Creativity) Book Creator (Freemium) is a website (https://bookcreator.com/ and iOS app that allows students to create books, comics, journals, and authentic learning artifacts, which they can then publish online for others to view and read. (Clark, Holly; Avrith, Tanya)

Story Jumper: (Creativity) https://www.storyjumper.com/ Story Jumper (Freemium) is another website that also allows students to create books, comics, journals, and authentic learning artifacts, which they can then publish online for others to view and read.

We Video : (Creativity) WeVideo (Freemium)  is a web-based video creation platform. (https://www.wevideo.com/) it allows students to share their video creations with a group and edit them collaboratively. Works with Canva, Screencastify, and Soundtrap. (Clark, Holly; Avrith, Tanya)

Adobe Spark:  ​spark.adobe.com/home/ .   Adobe Spark empowers everyone to be creative on web and mobile, for free.  Users can create professional looking graphics, web pages and videos in minutes. 


Animoto: (Creativity) Animoto (www.animoto.com): This website allows you to turn your photos and music  into a dramatic professional looking presentation. Teachers have limited educational use, but worth exploring.

Soundtrap: (Creativity) Soundtrap is a collaborative digital audio workstation that allows you and your students to create sound recordings. Flipgrid: Flipgrid is a video-response platform featuring grids and topics. https://info.flipgrid.com/ Think of it as a grid that helps you flip your instructions, hence, the name Flipgrid! Pro-Con.org: Pro-Con.org is a remarkable website particularly designed for the argumentative essay.  It curates credible resources from two opposing points of view on various topics, such as climate change. Students can review both sides and draft and argument and counter-argument. Be advised that some topics may be for older students (abortion), however teachers can copy their topics and share with students.

Project Guttenberg: www.guttenberg.org/ A vast collection of classic books, (Shakespeare, etc) with no copywriter restrictions. Free reading resource.

                        NOTE TAKING

Evernote: evernote.com is the Swiss army knife of note taking and website curation. Students can create bibliography and digital note cards in folders, then search “topics” and organize all their notes for long essays.Students can import entire webpages, documents or pictures and use interactive tools to highlight. They can share folders and use voice activation. The free version only allows usage on one computer.  The paid version allow students to access documents and research on multiple computers.

Google Keep: Google Keep is part of Google’s G-Suite for Education, a little know but powerful tool.  This is Google’s version of Evernote, which is constantly being upgraded, now allowing many Evernote features. It color codes folders for easy organization. Now in Google Docs there is a feature under Tools called “sync to Keep” where notes can be quickly dumped into a research report.

Diigo: (www.diigo.com)  Which ever browser you use, Diigo will create an add-on to your browser. Students can save and bookmark their resources, also annotate, highlight etc.  Very powerful web tool.

Notability:   powerful, yet wonderfully simple note-taking and PDF annotation. Available on Ipad, Iphone, and Mac.

Kami:  
Kami is a powerful document markup tool available in Google Chrome and Google Classroom.  This enriches student learning with online learning, ebooks, publisher PDFS, worksheets and more.  They boost creation and creativity and collaboration in real time.  Syncs with Google Classroom.  Go to Google Extensions in the Webstore.
